How do I become a Volunteer?
Some common questions are answered below and types of opportunities are listed at the bottom of the page.
Do I need to be a PTO Member to volunteer?
No! While we would love your support of the PTO, you may volunteer at Sebastian without being a member, provided you’ve been approved by the District.
What do I need to do to become a volunteer?
All St. Johns County School District volunteers must complete a criminal background and sex offender screening in order to participate in any school events that occur on campus and around students, including chaperoning on field trips. Please visit https://stjohns.keepntrack.com/apply to apply directly. You must be approved by the District BEFORE you can begin volunteering in our school.
**If you are already approved at another St. Johns County school, please contact our Volunteer Coordinator at volunteersebastian@gmail.com to activate your status for Sebastian. When requesting a transfer, we must have your legal first, middle and last name as they appear on your driver’s license or state ID card AND your birth date. Also, please include a contact phone number in case we cannot locate your record.
What happens after I’m approved?
Once you’re approved, our Volunteer Coordinator will add you to our Volunteer Opportunity Notification email list to alert you to upcoming events needing volunteer assistance. If you’re available and interested in helping out, follow the instructions on the email or contact the Volunteer Coordinator with any questions.
What do I do when I arrive at Sebastian for the activity I signed up for?
First, sign in on the computer in the school office when you arrive for your volunteer project. Not only does it record your service hours, but it tracks who is on campus at all times to ensure the safety of our students and staff. Volunteer name badges must be worn at all times while on school property. The receptionist will alert the proper people that you’re there or direct you where to go.
Feel free to bring water with you when you volunteer, but we ask that you please not chew gum or eat candy on campus nor eat while working in the classroom so that students are not distracted.
